HobbyBoss - German Dampflokomotive BR86 - 1/72 - 82914
The BR 86 (also designated DRB 86) is a series of steam locomotives produced between 1928 and 1943. Production was carried out by about a dozen contractors, including companies such as Schichau, Krupp, Borsig, and Henschel. During World War II, they were also built at the HCP plants (Hipolit Cegielski plant) in German-occupied Poznań. In total, approximately 780 locomotives of this type were constructed. The service weight of a single locomotive was 88.5 tons, and its length was 13.82 m. The locomotive featured a 2-8-2T wheel arrangement in Whyte notation.
The BR 86 steam locomotives were designed as standardized or standard locomotives (German: Einheitsdampflokomotive), which meant that despite being manufactured in different factories, they shared many common components—especially regarding the steam engine. This solution significantly reduced operating costs and shortened repair times. The BR 86 steam locomotives were primarily created for freight transport, which dictated the core design premises. Between 1942 and 1943, the locomotive design was significantly simplified to accelerate the production process. After 1945, many of them were reclaimed and adapted to the needs of the West and East German railways. A number of BR 86 steam locomotives were also used by the PKP (under the designation TkT3) and by Austrian railway lines.
