The Fairey Swordfish was a British torpedo bomber and reconnaissance biplane of the Second World War. Seemingly outdated, with fixed landing gear and about 2,400 units produced (1936-1944), it proved to be highly effective. Highlight: Famous for the attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto (1940) and its anti-submarine operations. Variants: Evolved from the initial Mk.I to Canadian training versions (Mk.IV) and models with rockets (Mk.II) and radar (Mk.III). Performance (Mk.I): Top speed of 224 km/h, range of 880 km, equipped with 3 machine guns and one 760 kg torpedo.
