The Ilyushin Il-62 was a long-range four-engine commercial airliner manufactured in the USSR/Russia between 1963 and 1995, with about 300 units produced to replace the Il-18 and Tu-114 models. Features & Performance: It had a range of about 8,000 km, capacity for up to 195 passengers (Il-62M version), a quiet cabin, and good handling. Technical Issues: The rear placement of the four engines and design flaws within them resulted in serious accidents, including two with the Polish airline PLL LOT. Market: It was exported to Eastern Bloc countries (such as Poland and East Germany) and temporarily leased by Western airlines from France and the Netherlands.
