Overview: The Hunter is a British transonic aircraft created by Hawker Aircraft Limited. It made its maiden flight on July 20, 1951, entering active service in 1954. Although retired from military service in 2014, a few aircraft still fly as warbirds or act as adversary aircraft in military pilot training.
On September 7, 1953, in Littlehampton, England, WWII flying ace Neville Duke set the world air speed record in a Hawker Hunter, reaching 1,171.01 km/h. Beyond the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, it was operated by numerous nations, including Abu Dhabi, Belgium, Chile, Denmark, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Netherlands, Oman, Peru, Qatar, Rhodesia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Somalia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
