The VPK-7829 Bumerang is a modern Russian wheeled armored personnel carrier (designation: K-16) or infantry fighting vehicle (K-17). The vehicle is powered by a single Barnaul Trans Mash UTD-32TR engine producing 510 HP. The armament — in the K-16 version — is a single 12.7 mm machine gun.

The VPK-7829 Bumerang was developed to replace the BTR-80 and BTR-90 family vehicles in the Russian armed forces. Advanced work on the prototype took place around 2010, and in 2013, the first prototypes were delivered for testing to the army of the Russian Federation. Most likely, deliveries of the first serial production units of this vehicle began in 2015 — that year, the public presentation of the Bumerang vehicle also took place during the Victory Day parade. Serial production targets will likely exceed 2,000 vehicles. The VPK-7829 Bumerang vehicle is capable of carrying up to 7-8 dismounted troops with full gear, providing protection against small arms fire and artillery splinters. The vehicle features amphibious capabilities, good off-road performance, and a high top road speed of up to 100 km/h. The K-16 version also serves as the basis for the production of the K-17 variant (infantry fighting vehicle) with upgraded armament, consisting of a 30 mm 2A42 cannon, a Kornet anti-tank guided missile launcher, and a 7.62 mm machine gun.
