The T-34 was the primary Soviet tank of World War II, recognized as one of the most influential military designs in history, with nearly 84,000 units produced. Origin: Designed in Kharkiv by Adolf Dik and Mikhail Koshkin to replace the BT and T-26 models, it made its debut in 1940 based on the A-32 prototype. Highlights: Combined a 500 hp engine, excellent mobility on rough terrain, and sloped armor, taking the Germans by surprise at the start of the invasion. Weaknesses: Early production batches suffered from poor crew ergonomics and low-quality sights. Evolution: T-34/76: Initial model armed with a 76.2 mm main gun. T-34/85: 1944 upgrade featuring an enlarged three-man turret and a powerful 85 mm main gun. Historical Impact: Present in all decisive battles on the Eastern Front (Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk, and Berlin), it continued to be exported to several countries and used long after the conflict ended.
